Walking the dog 9/10/08

September 11, 2008 at 2:37 pm | Posted in Hattie the dog | Leave a comment

I’ve walked the dog almost everyday since I last posted – I took one day off when we were getting ready for a bbq – but I keep forgetting to post the mileage. The idea was that I would motivate myself by having a record of miles walked but that doesn’t really seem to be working out. I may give it a try again, however. Being unemployed leaves me with a lack of schedule that I don’t deal with very well, I tend to dither and waste time instead of doing anything constructive so a regular posting may be good for me. At least I’ll keep my typing speed up.

On Wednesday Hattie and I walked about three miles according to Google’s beta (or is adding “beta” to a product at The Google redundant?) “walking directions”. It’s probably been there and I didn’t notice it before but you can ask for walking versus driving directions and then put in multiple destinations. The result is the number of miles we walked in a loop starting and stopping at home.

How far did I walk the dog today?

About 2 miles. My hyper-reactive 10 month old dog paid better attention to me than usual. Having some cheese instead of just kibble probably helped her focus. We stopped at several points with lots of distractions for her (golfers, pedestrians and cars) and I rewarded her everytime she remembered to look at me. Ain’t much but it’s a start.

I wish there was a way to figure miles with Google map if you are taking a long walk…not going from point a to b in a direct way. Anyway, Hattie and I walked about 2.7 miles this morning.

Things I hate about unemployment

Tags:

1. Having lots of free time and no money.

2. Jobs that are offering wages of under $12/hour that require the employee to have a car for running “occasional errands”. Just how much do they want me to pay them so I can work for them?

3. Reading job ads that ask for applicants to be “commited to helping the company succeed”, “want a long term career” etc., but they don’t bother to tell you, not just the name of the company but what industry it is in, what the job really consists of  or any other bit of information that would let an applicant know if they might want the job.
