Too Many Children Abandoned Under The “Safe-Haven” Law
September 28, 2008 at 10:45 pm | Posted in Uncategorized | Leave a comment“Too Many Children Abandoned Under The “Safe-Haven” Law
Since July, when Nebraska lawmakers passed a unique “safe-haven” law allowing parents to abandon children as old as 18, at least 16 children, some of them teenagers have been abandoned, making officials to consider revising the law.
“If we see another family being left off, then we’re going to have to do something immediately,” state Sen. Arnie Stuthman, who introduced legislation that was the basis for the law, said…”
WTF! They pass a law and find a huge, tragic need in society, so instead of dealing with the problem they plan to change the law and make the problem go away. One of the parents who dropped off older children was the father of 9 who was widowed last year. He couldn’t deal with grief and family. What do these people think he would have done if he had not had this option? Too many times it seems that desperate parents resort to desperate means – murder/suicide being the most newsworthy. I imagine there are a lot of nasty situations that arise which don’t make the news when an over stressed parent has nowhere to turn.
You know what? This shows that the Nebraska powers that be were only worried about newborns. You get to be old enough to talk back and they don’t care anymore. They might believe that a fertilized egg is a fully autonomous human being but an eleven year old is just a parasite on society. I do not understand this push to protect the “unborn” while at the same time ignoring the “born”.
Walk the dog

Dog Days
September 16, 2008 at 4:51 pm | Posted in Hattie the dog | Leave a commentYesterday and today Hattie and I walked a little over 2 miles. Hattie was a real pain today, grabbing the leash and tugging at it all the time. She usually resists the temptation unless she is really excited. I’ve got to buy a small rope tugger I can carry with me. Maybe I can train her to take out the excitement/frustration on the toy instead of her leash (and my fingers when they get in the way).
Walkies
September 13, 2008 at 5:45 pm | Posted in Hattie the dog | Leave a commentAbout 2 miles. Both Hattie and I are sneezing and coughing today so either we share allergies or a cold. A little weird either way if you ask me.

For Working Moms, ‘Flawed’ Palin Is the Perfect Choice

I just don’t get this attitude. Why would I want someone like me running the country? I want someone who is so smart, has foresight, is honest, thrifty, cheerful, brave and clean that they make me look like an amoeba. I’ve had to come to the sad conclusion that many of our elected officials do not meet my standard. In fact some of them are mind boggling dense, just watch a few of the interviews that Stephen Colbert has done with politicians (yes, I’m thinking of Mr. Uppity Ten Commandments, Rep. Lynn Westmoreland, R-Ga.) yet I still hope that we try to get the best of us into the position of most powerful person in the world.
After 2000 and 2004 I’m not sure why I still think the majority of voters want the best and brightest in the White House. I guess I don’t have a choice as I don’t have enough money to move out of the country.
